This will be a vibrant and inclusive event celebrating recovery, the recovery community and services across Nottingham and Nottingamshire. This event will bring together individuals in recovery, families, support organisations, and the wider community to promote awareness, celebrate achievements, and inspire hope.
The recovery walk, which will have two routes, from the north and south of the city, will culminate in a family friendly event in the beautiful surroundings of The Arboretum in the centre of Nottingham.
There'll be activities such as an inflatable goal from Nottingham Forest FC, food and coffee stalls, and multiple information stalls from our partners such as Double Impact, Framework, Nottingham Forest FC, mutual aid services such as AA and NA - and lots more! With a smorgasbord of live music throughout the afternoon from local and national acts such as Sancho Panza, Joel Sarakula, Vee Adu, Omari Grant known as Kriptik, Davina Songbird, Streetwise Opera (with more to be confirmed!) - all promoted and hosted on the day by local music event organisers, 'I’m Not From London' - there will be plenty for all the family to enjoy!
The recovery walk is called One Step At A Time. There are individual starting points for the two walks - both culminating in the Arboretum for the Family Day event - both walks starting at 10am - North route is starting from The Bull statue Bulwell - South route starts from Clifton library. All routes are flat and accessible and have been designed, in partnership with Active Nottingham, to be picked up at various points depending on how far you would like to walk. Whether you're in recovery, curious about recovery, a loved one of someone who has experienced problems with addiction, or just want to show your support, you are welcome to walk with us. See more details below.
The 'Family and Friends Fun Day' at the Arboretum will run from 1pm to 5pm. All events are free to enter or participate and the events are open to anyone - the more the merrier!
The day is being organised by Nottingham Inclusive Recovery City team with fantastic support from Nottinghamshire Inclusive Recovery City team and a range of core partners across the city and county.
Miggy James, Project Lead - Inclusive Recovery Cities Nottingham, said:
“This is the first large outdoor Inclusive Recovery Cities event - Nottingham and the wider county have a rich and varied recovery community made up of a network of local services, mutual aid organisations, recovery allies, friends and families and those in recovery themselves. The purpose of these events are to provide positive visibility to those in recovery and their families - to celebrate the achievements of the recovery community locally - to act as a bridge to connect the wider community and to increase inclusivity at all levels of society. Inclusive Recovery Cities wants to fight the negative impacts of stigma and change the narrative around those in recovery - we know that recovery is something that should be celebrated and championed...
We are incredibly excited (and - not gonna lie - a bit nervous!) to be holding the first event of its kind here in Nottingham, but we hope that it'll become a regular thing and keep growing! With the support of Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, plus our core group of amazing local partners, we're really hopeful this will be the case!"
Full details and timings of the two walk routes, and a chance to sign up to volunteer at the event (as a Walk Guide) can be found on Eventbrite using the QR codes or links below.
