On the 20th June 2017, the Recovery Recruitment team launched a new Voluntary Work Placement Programme as part of their Big Lottery-funded project – providing people in recovery from addictions with the opportunity to gain valuable transferable employment skills through working at Café Sobar.

Business Development Manager Eleanor Youdell greeted over a dozen people from a number of different services such as Nottingham Recovery Network, Recovery Recruitment, Clean Slate and Studio House. Following a warm welcome and introductions, attendees received a volunteer information pack, illustrating the opportunities available. Attendees were then taken on a pictographic journey of Café Sobar which included the current events and social groups that take place at the Café Sobar.

Volunteering brings great opportunities which enable people to grow in confidence, gain transferable skills, socialise and feel inspired by the support & work of Double Impact. Roles that are available include front of house at Café Sobar, Recovery Events Supporter, Artist Liaison and Digital Inclusion Champion. All volunteers who join the project receive ongoing support from Recovery Recruitment, plus any expenses paid.

After a Q&A session, attendees were invited to a tour of Café Sobar and Double Impacts’ Head office, providing attendees with the opportunity to gain an insight into the venue, the roles and the working environment at Café Sobar. The event closed with a delicious buffet provided courtesy of Café Sobar.
